"I love that moment in a hike when you snap to and suddenly realise for the last 10 minutes you've not been observing nature but have instead become a part of it." – Adam Marland, We Dream of Travel

Forty-six (46) was the headcount on the hike for today and another incredible hiking adventure with amazing hikers.

2.3km, 3.2km and 4.2km offered

Intermediate

A rocky route with very poor markings, but the trail is short enough to find your way

Merrell hiking footwear, a hat, water and snacks

Route:

We chose to do the red route in reverse, which was 4.2km, however, our group chose to do a section of the trail again, thus making the total distance 6km. We did have another group just complete the 4.2km.

Field Notes:

Good hiking boots are definitely a wise choice on these trails. Our Merrell hiking boots are always a winner for uneven trails. You can purchase your very own @Merrell footwear on the website, www. merrell.co.za. We wear the Erie Mid Leather Waterproof Hiking boot that is super comfortable. Our hikers have chosen the Crosslander as well.

Trail Log:

The trail starts with an immediate, ascent to the top of the mountain. It is on a paved path but it really does test your calves. It will test your strength to do ascents as it certainly tested some of our hikers. The ascent is less than 1km but you will find yourself resting occasionally to catch your breath. The view is spectacular as you hike to the top. You will have a stunning view of the Menlyn and Lynwood areas.
Once you reach the top, the trail becomes easier although quite rocky and care must be taken as you hike along the trail. There are tons of loose rocks.
The markings on this trail are very poor as they have been faded by the sun. This does make it a bit of a challenge to navigate the trail, however, it is short enough to find your way.

There are numerous benches along the trail that allow you to rest and embrace the beautiful view of the city of Pretoria. There are a few viewpoints where you can rest as well.

We did find a few benches just before the exit where you can enjoy a snack as you anticipate the end of your hike.

No booking is required.
The trail is pet-friendly.
