Mpumalanga
Voets Toets Hiking travelled to Sabie in Mpumalanga to conquer one of the most scenic hiking trails South Africa has to offer.
Day 1 is a 10km trail
A moderately easy trail with mild elevations
A rain jacket, Merrell non-slip shoe, and a hiking stick
This trail was a beautiful start to our 4 day hiking adventure. It was a misty day with fine rain which brought out nature's beauty. The trail was fairly flat, with mild elevations here and there, and took us through the magnificent pine tree plantations.
We passed Lone Creek falls en route, which was a beautiful sight to see. While journeying through indigenous forests, we could hear baboons in the distance, reminding us to be respectful of their territory. Our first day came to an end at the Maritzbos Huts, where we were able to dry off and relax with a good old South African braai.
Follow The RouteHydration, despite the cooler weather, is always a necessity. A rain jacket also came in handy with the fine mist. Merrell shoes are non negotiable, especially with the slippery leaves and ground underfoot. A hiking stick is also recommended to provide stability with slippery sections.
Join Our Hiking ClubThis trail was a good beginning to our adventure. It was well marked and was rated at a 4/10. We didn't find it very technical, which gave us a chance to really soak in the amazing surroundings.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of Voetstoets multi-day hiking experience!
