Merrell Hiking boots; water; rain jackets; gloves and a hiking stick

Route:

We started our hike from the JHC foothold camp and headed towards the mountainside. It was tough going as we headed up in search of the ladder gully. The approach to the ladder was tricky, and we scrambled up, assisted by ropes and chains. We finally reached the chain ladder and took extra precaution as we climbed up due to the wet weather. Once at the top, there was another scramble up before we reached a small plateau. After a short rest, we followed the ridge line in the mist and made our way towards Footloose Gully for our descent. Once again, ropes and chains assisted us as we took care not to slip or dislodge rocks that could be hazardous to us. Once out of the gully, it was an easy downhill back towards the camp.

Field Notes:

It was a cold and wet day, so our rain jackets came in handy. Gloves helped a lot with all the scrambling over rocks and especially when going up the chain ladder. The rain made the trail super slippery, but our preferred Merrell hiking boots kept us sturdy. Hydration is a must, although one can find fresh water along the trail. A hiking stick was also needed, especially when navigating the route downhill. This hike is technical and not suitable for beginners or those with a fear of heights.
