Iron Throne Trail Park

By Shaun Bloomfield

Iron Throne Trail Park in Harties was our adventure for today. I set off early on a chilly winters morning to see what challenge awaited. A group of us are training for an upcoming event, so this was an ideal spot to test our hiking skills.

The route is 7.6 km.

Intermediate

A looped trail that starts at the Iron Throne and took us to the top of the Magalies mountain where the Harties Cableway is situated.

A solid pair of footwear is a must have.

Route:

It's an intermediate trail with a 360 metre elevation. It's a challenging route which is rocky/slippery at sections, but the view from the top is certainly worth it!

Field Notes:

A solid pair of Merrell footwear is a must. The rocky sections of the trail will test your agility and foot flexibility and strength. A walking stick is recommended for that extra support while navigating the trail.

Trail Log:

This trail is deemed intermediate, so experience in hiking is recommended. Core fitness and strength is needed to make your way up the steep climb. Certain sections are difficult and can be intimidating, so hiking with a group of people is suggested for safety reasons.

This trail put us through our paces, but definitely worth the experience! We rewarded ourselves with a hearty South African breakfast at the restaurant on top. For those that only want to hike up and not back down can make use of the cableway to get back to the starting point (Bookings online for cableway)
For a fun day out while getting fit, give this route a bash 🇿🇦
