An easy to moderate trail
Sun protection, warm layers of clothing, Merrell Hiking shoes, a hiking stick and water
Voets Toets Hiking completed 5km of the trails and rated it easy to moderate. It is a family-friendly venue that offers nature lovers an enjoyable day out. The routes take you along winding footpaths with beautiful flora. You can sit and relax at the dam while trying to spot an animal or two, or simply relax and listen to the birds chirping away.
Follow The RouteIt was a crisp winter's morning, so warm layers of clothing were needed. Sun protection is always a must even in the colder conditions. Always lace up with Merrell shoes and bring a hiking stick along to help with balance in rocky areas.
Join Our Hiking ClubThis venue has a rich and interesting history in addition to its beautiful surroundings. Fred and Harry Struben discovered the Confidence Reef (gold mining) on 18 September 1884. This then led to an influx of prospectors to the Witwatersrand, culminating in the discovery of the Main gold reef in 1886. The first payable gold on the Rand was extracted by the Strubens in Kloofendal Nature Reserve.
The mine was then declared a National Monument on 29 July 1983. The old mine and ground mill is still on the reserve which is a wonderful sight to behold and takes you back in history!
Kloofendal is the perfect venue for a family hike and to spoil your loved ones with a delicious picnic at the Amphitheatre after a great walk out and about.
