Milorho Hiking Trail

Milorho Lodge, was Voets Toets Hiking magical getaway destination this past long weekend. It's situated in the Northern slopes of the Magaliesberg mountains and is 1 hour and 45 min from Johannesburg. Its unique name is a traditional Tsonga word meaning dream/dreamer. This is certainly a place of dreams and where dreams are created!
4.5 km brown route trail and a 12 km green flag trail offered
An easy to moderate trail which is well marked, with a few small climbs
Merrell shoes; a walking stick; hydration/electrolytes and healthy energy snacks
Route:
The route is classed as moderate. We started our journey in the forest area where we saw the most beautiful manmade sculptures! This is one of the unique aspects of this venue. We then proceeded into the grassy lands of the trail and made our way into the gorge. No words can begin to describe how beautiful the landscape was and the tranquillity we experienced when we just sat and took in the surroundings. The highlight of our hike was the rock pools and magnificent natural fountains, which was such a blessing to experience.

Having had a storm the previous night, we were more vigilant when climbing the boulders/rocks in the gorge due to the possible damp. We gave our new 𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐈𝐃 𝐆𝐓𝐗 and 𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐃 𝐋EATHE𝐑 𝐖𝐏 a test run, and they did not disappoint! Having a strong pair of Merrell shoes is necessary. A walking stick does help with maintaining balance and navigation. Hydration/electrolytes and healthy energy snacks are always a necessity.

We felt so welcomed by the owners, Reneé and Laine. Their hospitality and love for what they do was clearly evident. They have self-catering chalets and a camp site, which is soon to be upgraded (keep an eye on their socials 😍 ) We will most certainly be back for chapter 2 of this hiking adventure. Our dreams did indeed come true with this magical getaway and the making of new friends. 👣
