Quartzkloof

By Shaun Bloomfield

Magaliesberg

Voets Toets Hiking club ventured out with our fellow avid hikers, to explore Quartzkloof located in the Magaliesberg Mountains.

8km route

Intermediate

A moderate to difficult trail which involves a lot of climbing and balance

A hiking stick, sun protection, energy snacks, hydration, and a trusted pair of Merrells for the slippery terrain

Route:

We began our hike early in the morning, heading along a sandy road towards the mountain range. Entering the kloof was a welcomed relief as the day was warming up rather quickly.

The trees, moss and stream were alive which was a spectacular sight. It was a challenging and tough trail with loads of rock climbing and slippery conditions due to the water and condensation.

We made our way to a stunning small waterfall at the end of the kloof. After a short break we returned back using the same route and headed off to nearby rock pools for a refreshing swim.

Field Notes:

It was a hot summer's day so sun protection is a must. A hiking stick is needed for stability and sturdy shoes with excellent grip is required for the slippery terrain.

Our trusted Merrells did the trick! Energy snacks and hydration is also recommended.

Trail Log:

The trail was moderate to difficult and involved a lot of climbing and balance. Cardio fitness and muscle strength is essential when taking on the Magaliesberg kloofs. We ended our adventure swimming and jumping into the many different rock pools found close to the kloof.

It was a great day out exploring nature with friends and fellow hikers.
