We started our 16 km hike at the Rietvlei coffee shop where Bradden gave us a briefing on what to expect, but nothing could have prepared us for the wonderful experience we had! It was a flat trail on mostly open grasslands, which was easy to navigate. There was an assortment of antelope as well as Black Wildebeest, Zebra, and the majestic Eland. The insect and bird life were truly spectacular, and we could not have asked for a better learning experience! The open veld gave us front row seats to view and observe our wildlife in their element and natural habitat.

It was a scorching summer day, so sunscreen and sun protection is a must! You must ensure adequate hydration due to the distance and hot weather. Energy snacks gave us the nourishment we needed on our picnic stops. Our preferred Merrell hiking boots did the trick and kept our feet dry whenever we came across wetlands. A hiking stick was not a necessity on this route.
