"We don't stop hiking because we grow old, we grow old because we stop hiking."

We are hiking addicts because we know the value that it adds to our lives. We have experienced the healing from hiking in so many ways. We show up each week because we want to inspire others to come out and feel what we feel each week.

We were close to 50 hikers on a blistering Sunday on a moderate to flat trail.

There is a 5km and an 11km trail

Beginner

Both trails are flat and start at the same place just after the entrance to the Farmer's Market

Field Notes:

This trail is moderate to flat so good footwear is always a plus. Whenever you are hiking, it is wise to be prepared and to take care of your feet. We enjoy our @Merrell hiking footwear. We know that we will enjoy our time on a trail.

You can own your very own pair of Merrell footwear by going to www.merrell.co.za, let us know when you do so.

Trail Log:

The terrain is easy and shady in some parts with incredible trees along the way. There are birdwatching spots available on this trail. On the 5km trail, you hike along the dam for most of the time. There is not much covering on certain places so care must be taken during the summer months. A wet towel to put over your head or shoulders works wonders to keep you cool. You must ensure that you have sufficient hydration. It is vital to always hike with your own day bag should you find yourself alone or separated from your group.

The view of the dam is amazing and the waterfall at the end of the trail (both 5km and 11km) is something to behold. There are also cyclists on this trail that you need to look out for.

There are ablution facilities available as you hike should you have an emergency.

It is a pet-friendly venue but dogs must be kept on leashes. The terrain is pram-friendly if you want to bring the babies along.

After a long hike, you can reward yourself with a yummy meal at the Farmers Market. You can find a place to sit or simply sit on the lawn and enjoy the live music. There is an additional charge of R10 now (sadly) to enter the Farmers market although it is free for pensioners.
