Somabula Nature Reserve is a hidden diamond near the town of Cullinan. Not far from Johannesburg and Pretoria, this rustic getaway was Voets Toets Hiking next stop for an overnight excursion. It's a 400 hectare farm with an abundance of indigenous trees, wildlife and phenomenal birdlife.
This was a beautiful African landscape! The trails are well marked and easy to navigate. We were blessed to see giraffe, gemsbok, wildebeest, zebra, eland and impala en route. The birdlife was also exquisite, offering us bird calls not experienced/heard before! It was a terrain that offered open veld plains, rocky outcrops and lush vegetation, offering us a diverse experience of African land.
Our Merrell shoes are always a winner in the African bush, offering good grip and stability. A hiking stick is not needed, but does give you added stability. Being a hot day, we had to ensure enough hydration with some fruit for energy.
