Voets Toets Hiking travelled to Mulbarton, South of Johannesburg to visit the popular Thaba Trails with fellow hiking lovers.
We completed the 10 km route and rated it as easy to moderate. The trail took us up and over the mountain into a very peaceful and quiet valley down below. It's a scenic hike with beautiful surroundings. Most of the trail was shady, as it took us through the woodlands of the reserve. It's a well-marked trail with well-maintained routes.
The route was rocky with elevations at times, so a hiking stick is recommended. Adequate hydration on the longer route is essential and healthy snacks can be enjoyed at the picnic spot en route. Merrell shoes provided us with good support and stabilisation on the rocky sections of the trail. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat for sun protection.
